Easter celebrates the resurrection of Jesus from the grave.
His murder began with a mock trial, conducted in secrete at night, accompanied
by torture and humiliation. The verdict
was carried out by the most horrid method of torture and death devised by the
Romans – Crucifixion. Yet, within a
short time the cross became the symbol of Christianity and the symbol of God’s
love for everyone. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that
whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.” (John 3:16
ESV) The cross of Christ is the symbol of God’s love for us and the most
enduring artistic and architectural theme of the past two thousand years.
